Can a Self-Cleaning Oven Really Clean Itself?

You may have heard the term “self-cleaning oven” and assumed that your oven can simply clean itself with the push of a button. Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple!

The term can refer to different types of oven cleaning systems, and they don't completely remove the need for cleaning.

What does a self-cleaning oven actually do?

Some ovens use a special coating that helps break down grease and food residue when the oven is heated. Other ovens have a pyrolytic cleaning function that heats the oven to a very high temperature, turning food and grease residue into ash that can then be wiped away.

While these systems can certainly help, they don't necessarily clean every part of your oven.

Racks, trays, the oven door and other removable parts will still need cleaning separately.

Why might your oven still need a professional clean?

Over time, grease and burnt-on food can build up in areas that the self-cleaning function doesn't completely deal with.

That's where a professional oven clean can make a big difference.

At Gorilla Clean, we fully strip down the oven, removing removable parts including the back panel and fan blade where appropriate. We clean those hard-to-reach areas that can easily be overlooked.

Because we also carry out oven repairs, we can keep an eye out for potential problems while we're cleaning too.

So, does a self-cleaning oven really clean itself?

Not completely!

A self-cleaning function can be useful for helping maintain your oven, but it doesn't mean you never need to clean it.
